Sri Lanka is preparing its National Budget for 2026 under the visionary policy framework “Rich Country – Beautiful Country”, aligning with the National Policy Framework 2026–2030.
The 2026 budget will revolve around the central theme of building a Production-Based Economy and ensuring the active participation of all stakeholders in national economic development. The government aims to accelerate rural development and prioritize initiatives that align with long-term strategic goals.
In this regard, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by His Excellency the President, in his role as Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, to present the Appropriation Bill for 2026 to Parliament in October 2025. The second reading and budget speech are scheduled for November 2025, followed by debates and the third reading during November and December.
This budget planning approach signals stability, transparency, and a clear policy direction—creating a strong foundation for local and foreign investors to confidently engage in Sri Lanka’s growth journey.
