Sri Lanka marked a historic milestone by awarding its first long-term residence visa under the newly introduced Individual Investor Category. The visa was officially presented by Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala to Dr. Prey Drechsel of Germany, making him the very first recipient of this groundbreaking initiative.
Through the amended Immigration and Emigration Regulations (November 2023), foreign nationals now have the opportunity to secure residency that is directly linked to investment in Sri Lanka’s economy. This progressive move positions Sri Lanka as a more attractive destination for global investors seeking stability, transparency, and growth opportunities.
Under the scheme, investors can qualify for a 5-year residence visa with an investment of USD 100,000 or a 10-year residence visa with an investment of USD 200,000. All investments are required to be deposited into a Visa Programme Foreign Currency Account (VPFCA) at a licensed Sri Lankan bank, ensuring both transparency and security for investors.
This program is designed with three clear objectives: to attract foreign capital into the country, to provide long-term residency security for investors, and to encourage greater international participation in Sri Lanka’s growth journey. By awarding the first visa, Sri Lanka has sent a strong message to the world: the nation is open for investment, innovation, and partnership.
Be part of Sri Lanka’s future. Secure your residency and unlock new opportunities in a country strategically located at the crossroads of South Asia.
