Sri Lanka Ranked 4th Among the World’s Fastest-Improving Countries in the 2026 Institute of International Finance (IIF) Investor Relations and Debt Transparency Report, marking another positive milestone for the country’s investment environment.
The recognition reflects Sri Lanka’s significant progress in strengthening investor relations, improving debt transparency, and enhancing communication with the investment community as the country continues its economic recovery.
According to the report, Sri Lanka’s Investor Relations Country Score increased from 37.33 out of 50 in 2025 to 43.67 out of 50 in 2026. This places the country within the top quartile of the 57 emerging markets and developing economies assessed by the IIF.
Vietnam ranked first among the fastest-improving countries, followed by Belize and Mozambique, with Sri Lanka securing fourth place.
Stronger Debt Transparency
Sri Lanka also recorded significant progress in debt transparency, ranking among the world’s leading improvers in this area. The report attributes this improvement to stronger disclosure of debt-related information, better communication with investors, and increased transparency regarding public finances.
Progress in ESG Disclosure
The report also highlights Sri Lanka’s progress in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) data and policy dissemination. Improved ESG disclosures provide investors with broader information beyond financial performance and support informed investment decision-making.
Sri Lanka was listed among the countries demonstrating notable improvements in ESG transparency during the assessment period.
The latest IIF assessment reflects Sri Lanka’s continued efforts to rebuild international investor confidence following the country’s sovereign debt crisis. Improvements in transparency, investor engagement, and financial communication contribute to strengthening Sri Lanka’s reputation among global investors.
As Sri Lanka continues implementing economic reforms and improving financial governance, these developments reinforce the country’s commitment to creating a more transparent and investor-friendly business environment.
