The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has strengthened Sri Lanka’s international business network through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the Qatar Sri Lanka Business Council (QSLBC) and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon (CCIA-BML).
The MoU with the Qatar Sri Lanka Business Council was signed at the Ceylon Chamber, while the agreement with CCIA-BML was signed virtually.
Strengthening Sri Lanka–Qatar Business Relations
The agreement with QSLBC comes as Sri Lanka and Qatar mark 50 years of bilateral relations, providing an opportunity to further strengthen commercial ties and business-to-business engagement between the two countries.
The partnership is expected to support stronger connections between businesses in Sri Lanka and Qatar, creating opportunities for increased trade, investment and commercial cooperation.
Ceylon Chamber Chairperson Krishan Balendra welcomed the agreements, noting that the partnerships would help strengthen connections between the respective business communities and create opportunities for greater trade, investment and commercial engagement.
QSLBC Secretary B.A.W.C. Gunasekara also welcomed the agreement, highlighting its potential to strengthen business relations between Sri Lanka and Qatar and facilitate greater interaction between companies in both markets.
Expanding Business Engagement with Lebanon
The Ceylon Chamber also entered into an MoU with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon (CCIA-BML).
The virtual signing took place in the presence of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Lebanese Republic, Anura Withanage. CCIA-BML Chairman Mohamed Choucair welcomed the partnership, highlighting the potential for closer cooperation between the two chambers and greater business engagement between Sri Lanka and Lebanon.
Creating Opportunities for Trade and Investment
The two MoUs establish a framework for the respective organisations to:
- Exchange business and economic information
- Facilitate connections between businesses in the respective markets
- Identify opportunities for bilateral trade
- Promote investment and commercial cooperation
- Strengthen business-to-business engagement
These partnerships further expand Sri Lanka’s network of international chamber and business organisation relationships, supporting efforts to connect Sri Lankan businesses with overseas markets, potential partners and investment opportunities.
For investors and businesses exploring opportunities in Sri Lanka, stronger international business networks can contribute to greater market connectivity and facilitate new avenues for trade, investment and cross-border commercial engagement.
