President Encourages Investment in Sri Lanka at Economic Summit 2026

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has encouraged local and international investors to invest in Sri Lanka with confidence, highlighting the Government’s commitment to transparency, investor protection, and infrastructure development to support economic growth.

The President made these remarks at the Sri Lanka Economic and Investment Summit 2026, held at the Shangri-La Colombo on 12 October 2026. Organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the two-day summit brought together business leaders, policymakers, and international investors to discuss Sri Lanka’s economic outlook and investment opportunities.

Strengthening Investor Confidence

Addressing the summit, the President highlighted the importance of establishing a transparent business environment and introducing the necessary laws and regulations to safeguard investments and support business activities.

He explained that transparency was an important first step and emphasized the need to establish a supportive regulatory framework and develop the infrastructure required to facilitate investment.

The President also highlighted the Government’s intention to strengthen the domestic business community and encourage a new generation of entrepreneurs who can work alongside foreign investors and international companies.

Expanding Investment Opportunities

The President identified several areas with potential to create new economic opportunities, including ports, renewable energy, Port City Colombo, and tourism.

He also referred to the Government’s focus on encouraging investment in rural areas through concessions relating to land and services. These initiatives aim to create opportunities for businesses while supporting economic development across different parts of the country.

The summit provided a platform for discussions on economic reforms, foreign direct investment, export development, and cooperation between the public and private sectors.
