Cabinet Approves Leasing of 15 State Plantation Properties to Private Investors

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the leasing of 15 underutilised state plantation properties to private investors under long-term agreements, aiming to make better use of state-owned assets and attract private investment.

The properties are managed by the Sri Lanka State Plantations Corporation (SLSPC), the Janatha Estates Development Board (JEDB), and Elkaduwa Plantations Limited. They include agricultural lands, scenic bungalows, and inactive factories.

Investment Opportunities in State-Owned Properties

Under the first phase of the initiative, 1,514 hectares of land, 10 tourism bungalows and scenic locations, and 15 inactive factories were offered to investors.

The investment process attracted 470 initial Expressions of Interest (EOIs), followed by 44 formal proposals covering 30 property units.

Cabinet Approval for 15 Properties

Following the evaluation process and recommendations of the High-Level Procurement Committee, Cabinet approval has been granted to award long-term leases for 15 selected properties.

The initiative aims to encourage private sector participation in utilising underdeveloped state plantation assets and attracting investment into these properties.
