Sri Lanka to Attract Indonesian Investors Through Sri Lanka Connect 2026

Sri Lanka is strengthening its efforts to attract Indonesian investors and promote its position as a strategic gateway to South Asian markets through Sri Lanka Connect 2026, a bilateral business and investment forum held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 16 October 2026.

Organised by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta under the theme “Bridging Markets, Unlocking Growth,” the forum brought together approximately 120 government officials, business leaders, investment promotion agencies and other stakeholders from Sri Lanka and Indonesia to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.

Promoting Sri Lanka as an Investment Destination

The forum highlighted Sri Lanka’s potential as an attractive destination for Indonesian investors, focusing on its investment opportunities, business environment and potential to serve as a strategic gateway for regional business expansion.

The discussions identified several priority sectors for investment, including:

  • Maritime infrastructure
  • Logistics and supply chain
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Real estate
  • Agriculture and fisheries
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Textile and apparel manufacturing
  • Critical minerals and energy exploration

The first panel discussion, titled “Sri Lanka – The Best Business Destination in Asia to Grow Your Business,” explored the country’s investment potential, available investment incentives, business opportunities and prospects for regional expansion.

The session featured representatives from the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI), Kalbe International, CBL Group and the Colombo Port City Economic Commission.

Strengthening Bilateral Business and Investment Partnerships

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) was ceremonially exchanged during the forum.

The agreement marks a step towards strengthening institutional cooperation, developing business connections and facilitating greater engagement between the private sectors of both countries.

The forum also featured a second panel discussion titled “Sri Lanka as an Investor in Indonesia,” which explored the experiences and opportunities available for Sri Lankan businesses investing in the Indonesian market.

Representatives from Hayleys Aventura, MAS Holdings and KADIN shared insights into investment experiences and opportunities for expanding commercial relationships between the two countries.

Encouraging Future Investment Opportunities

During the forum, Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Arun Hemachandra, delivered a virtual keynote address, inviting Indonesian investors to explore business and investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.

He also encouraged Indonesian companies to participate in Sri Lanka Expo 2027, scheduled to take place from 14 to 17 January 2027 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo.

The discussions and business engagements at Sri Lanka Connect 2026 are expected to support stronger bilateral investment relations, encourage new business partnerships and create opportunities for increased investment flows between Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

Through initiatives such as this, Sri Lanka continues to strengthen its international investment promotion efforts and expand its engagement with potential investors across regional markets.
